Perfect Pair: OPI How’s it Snowin’? & OPI Stars in my Eyes

I love glitter but I hate how difficult it is to apply, how poorly it wears and what a total pain in the ass it is to remove! So I’m always trying glitters over different polishes.

How’s it Snowin’? is gorgeous on its own but the formula is a bit on the thick side and requires at least 2 to 3 coats. So I thought this might make a good layering polish. I applied one coat of How’s it Snowin’? over OPI Stars in my Eyes. How’s it Snowin’? is so opaque the what it’s over doesn’t seem to make much difference, but I do like the way this manicure turned out.

Perfect Pair: OPI Spark de Triomphe & Orly Rage

After the first time I wore OPI Spark de Triomphe I knew I wanted to try it over Orly Rage. Using Spark de Triomphe on its own requires at least 3 coats and the wear time was horrible. Luckily, layering it fixed that problem!

I used 2 coats of Orly Rage and topped it with one coat of OPI Spark de Triomphe and absolutely love the way it turned out! Spark de Triomphe does appear to be more rose gold since it’s over Rage which I quite like. I’m interested to try it over silver.

The wear time was significantly better over Rage than it was on its own. Removal was also easier.

This could quite easily become my go to holiday manicure.

Perfect Pair: OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys & Sephora by OPI 212 Sephora

I was really in the mood for a brown manicure the other day and immediately reached for my favorite brown creme; OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys. After putting Suzi Loves Cowboys on I quickly decided it was a bit on the boring side so I decided to add a coat of Sephora by OPI 212 Sephora and just LOVE the results!

The first time I used 212 Sephora I liked it, but I didn’t love it. On its own it is quite thin and required at least 4 coats for an opaque coverage. Using Suzi Loves Cowboys underneath was the perfect solution!

I go back and forth on whether I like 212 Sephora or Orly Fowl Play better. I’m glad I don’t have to pick!

Perfect Pair: OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window & Confetti My Favorite Martian

This manicure is the definition of ugly pretty. At least to me! Some of you might just find this plain ugly, which I did at first, but it grew on me :)

I was having a bit of a hard time warming up to OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window. Even after wearing it a couple of times I was still on the fence. In an attempt to cure my boredom with my manicure I decided to top it with one coat of Confetti My Favorite Martian.

Surprisingly, I got a ton of compliments on this manicure. It’s definitely an eye catching combination.

There are a couple more pictures below the jump.

Perfect Pair: OPI Pink Before You Leap and wet n wild Everybody Loves Redmond

This manicure brings together two of my favorite things; tomato red nail polish and sparkles! I was wearing wet n wild Everybody Loves Redmond on its own but got bored with it after a couple of days. Instead of doing an entirely new manicure, I decided to top it with 1 coat of OPI Pink Before You Leap.

I just love the way this manicure turned out. Very classic yet with a slight twist!

Perfect Pair: Sephora by OPI Club Scene Queen and Ulta Moody Blues

Back when I first tried out Sephora by OPI Club Scene Queen, while it is a gorgeous on its own, I immediately thought it would make a fabulous topper. I decided to try it over Ulta Moody Blues and love the way it turned out! I used only one coat over Moody Blues and it gave Club Scene Queen more of a purple leaning base which I prefer.

I definitely want to try Club Scene Queen over black and a true purple. The possibilities are endless!

There is a macro shot below the jump. The sparkles are amazing :)

Perfect Pair: Finger Paints Tiffany Imposter & Nina Ultra Pro Soursop

As much as I am ready for Fall to arrive I did try to stay in a Summer mood over the long Labor Day weekend. My family had (what turned into) a cook in at my house thanks to the weather. I was wearing one of my favorite maxi dresses and Finger Paints Tiffany Imposter complimented it perfectly. To add a little sparkle to the manicure I added one coat of Nina Ultra Pro Soursop and fell in love with the way it turned out. The shimmer from Soursop was super subtle but it gave the manicure just a little something extra.

Hope everyone had a fabulous long weekend!

Perfect Pair: OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight and Orly Fowl Play

It’s no secret that my absolute favorite new Fall 2011 nail polish is Orly Fowl Play. The only sort of negative to Fowl Play is that it is a jelly so it takes a good 4 coats to get an opaque color. Given that, I decided to try it over one of my all time favorite almost black purples; OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight.

I used one coat of Orly Fowl Play over two coats of OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight and absolutely love the end result. The uniquness of Fowl Play stands out even more with only one coat and LPAM darkens Fowl Play up just enough.

After this experience I’m definitely interested in trying Fowl Play over all kinds of colors.

OPI Absolutely Alice over Essie Mesmerize

Sometimes I’m just in the mood for glitter. I was having one of those moments when Absolutely Alice (from OPI’s Alice in Wonderland collection)  jumped out at me.

Absolutely Alice, when worn alone, is a chip fest. It tends to chip off in huge flakes. So I used one coat of Absolutely Alice over Essie Mesmerize in an attempt to minimize chipping. The only other times I’ve worn this polish it’s either been alone or over Ulta Alter Ego (which is very similar in color to Absolutely Alice), so I was surprised when after one coat Mesmerize was completely covered.

Using just one coat of Absolutely Alice over a base color really helps prevent chipping.

This is kind of a fun change of pace from the usual pastel cremes for Spring. Using this makes me want to pull out OPI Show it and Glow it!

I’m having China Glaze Strawberry Fields withdraw

Everytime I would open my red/pinks Melmer drawer I would pick  up Strawberry Fields and just sigh. All I can do is wait for Spring, right? I decided that just wasn’t going to work for me.

I decided to give it a try over red, so I used 2 coats of OPI Perfectly Red and topped it with just one coat of China Glaze Strawberry Fields. I love the way it turned out! The gold shimmer from Strawberry Fields worked really well with Perfectly Red.

For now my withdraw has been tamed. I am seriously ready for Spring though!
