Fall Favorite: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Gray by Gray

This polish was my Mac Blue India lemming killer. Turns out it didn’t really work….I spotted Mac Blue India at a CCO and just HAD to have it. But! Gray by Gray is a lovely polish for Fall. It’s unexpected but still subtle, which is what I love about it.

Gray by Gray is a dusty slate blue creme. It applies wonderfully in two to three coats.

Generally speaking I am not a huge fan of the Complete Salon Manicure line. It’s a bit pricey for a drugstore polish line, in my opinion. But this is a fairly unique color so I don’t feel so bad! Lol

Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle Gorgeous Grape

I think half my posts start with “I was at Ulta….” but….I was at Ulta and spotted butter LONDON Toff. It looked like a gorgeous color but not particularly unique so I took Toff over to the OPI and Essie displays to see if I could find a match. Essie Island Hopping looked to be a dead on dupe. While all of this was happening I was on the phone with Katie. She suggested that there was probably a similar color in one of the Sally Hansen lines. Turns out she was right!

Gorgeous Grape is a slightly red leaning purple creme. The base color reminds me quite alot of OPI Catherine the Grape. It’s a gorgeous color!

This is the first polish from Sally Hansen’s Nailgrowth line I have used so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Katie didn’t help my uncertainty when she flat out said “what if the formula sucks!”. Yeah, thanks alot. But, turns out, the formula was lovely. I used three coats and had no problems with streakyness or bald spots.

I obviously bought this polish for the color, but Sally Hansen claims this is quite the miracle worker. The polish is formulated with “Peptides, Keratin, Biotin and Multi-Vitamins, reinforces nails to resist splitting, cracking and breaking.” Sally Hansen also claims that nails grow 30% longer in 5 days using this polish. I can’t really speak to these claims. I am lucky in that I don’t have any of these nail issues. But, it is good to know that this polish is formulated to do good things for your nails :)

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Flirt

I am thrilled that I rediscovered this beauty! This polish has been in my collection for years though I can’t remember the last time I wore it. I’m pretty sure this was the first Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polish I ever bought.

Flirt is a blacked red with red microglitter. In most light this polish looks black, but in the sun it really comes alive! Application was good; I used 3 thin coats and topped in with my favorite top coat.

While this color is gorgeous and alone is impressive, the most impressive thing about this polish is the wear time. I rarely wear dark polishes for more than a day or two (at the most) because the tip wear is very noticeable. I wore this polish for 3 and a half days and the manicure still looked great. I could hardly believe it!

Check out the day 3 picture below the jump :)

Sally Hansen – Ice Queen

Who doesn’t love a new fun & unique glitter top coat? That’s right… no one.

Ice Queen is from the new line of Hard as Nails polishes from Sally Hansen.

Tell me more, you say? Well Ice Queen is silver glitter with royal blue and lilac/pink hex glitter in a clear base.

I have more glitter top coats than I’ll ever admit but this is a welcome addition because I have nothing like it. I imagine it’d be quite easy to franken as well if you have some hex glitter laying around. I layered it over top of Wet n Wild’s Ebony Hates Chris – I only used one coat and I’m pleased with the amount of glitter per coat.

I have so many new polishes to show you all – can’t wait!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri – Bronze Ablaze

Bronze Ablaze is from the Fall set of Insta-Dri polishes from Sally Hansen. I’ve had really good luck with the Insta-Dri line and I’ve been really into bronze-y colors lately so this was pretty much a no brainer. I was so focused on this polish that I probably couldn’t tell you a single thing about the other polishes in the display.

Indoors it’s more of a typical bronze color, but the sun is what makes this polish special. The multicolored microglitter is fantastic – and it translates well from the bottle to the nail. I will say that when I first wore it it showed some green undertones which I liked a lot – so I’m not going to call it a duochrome by any means but it does have some personality.

I used two coats – they applied smoothly. I still have some trouble with the Insta-Dri brush – it takes a little more focus for me since it’s so large.

Overall this polish is lovely, great for fall (or right now!)

Happy Monday!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Coral Fever

If there is one thing that can be said about me it is that I definitely have coral fever. I still blame butter LONDON Macbeth. Ever since that nail polish entered my life I cannot get enough coral! Coral Fever is from the same Summer 2011 Sally Hansen collection as the ever elusive Barracuda. Originally Coral Fever didn’t catch my eye but when I saw it at Target not too long ago I just had to have it!

Coral Fever is a very orange leaning coral creme. Despite the fact that this coral leans very orange, I quite like the way it looked with my skintone (I still have it on my toes!). The formula is fine. I used my normal three coats with no issues.

I have alot of coral cremes in my collection (it’s basically been my Summer polish obsession) but none of them are quite this orange. Not too long ago I did a comparison post of (most) my coral cremes and none of them could pass as a dupe.

All of the polishes in this collection are limited edition. I spotted the Fall 2011 collection just a few days ago which means soon these polishes should be hitting the clearance rack (if they haven’t already)!

Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear – Deep Blue Sea

Finally! New Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes! This is one of my favorite super cheap drug store lines – and I was so excited to see a new display at Walgreens the other day. I picked up Deep Blue Sea, Pumpkin Spice, and Set the Stage.

Deep Blue Sea is a gorgeous denim blue foil – and I do love foils. I used three coats to get the deep color – one coat was quite sheer and I was nervous – but a 2nd coat does wonders. The application was smooth and easy. A+ for this polish. I love it.

Forgive the ding on my middle finger – my fault, not the polish’s.

Have you seen the latest display? I’m hoping Alli will find the display and get a picture since I’d left my phone in the car when I went in. Plus I feel a bit awkward sometimes taking pictures of displays.

Happy Wednesday!!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Yellow Kitty

The hunt for the perfect yellow nail polish seems to be never ending. I’ve gone through several recently and everything I posted about a yellow polish people would recommend this one. Finally, I decided to give it a try.

First of all, I love the name. Yellow Kitty…who doesn’t LOVE that name!? Anyway, Yellow Kitty is a pale yellow creme. I really like the color, and surprisingly it was quite flattering against my skintone. As with most (all!?) yellow polishes the formula left something to be desired. It’s not runny…but it is quite thin. I needed 4 coats to get an opaque color.

The color is quite similar to SinfulColors Unicorn. Considering the price difference, I’d recommend Unicorn over Yellow Kitty. The formulas are about the same.

Celeb Nails – Britney Spears Inspired Mani (I Wanna Go)

Horray! My first celeb manicure post :) So… a few days ago Britney released a teaser video for I Wanna Go and of course I immediately noticed her nails! After Alli & I spent far longer than we’d admit trying to figure out if she had red or pink on her middle finger we settled on red. I went and grabbed my favorite white, black, and red and went to work.

I used Essie – Licorice, Wet n Wild – Red Red, and Sally Hansen Xtreme – White On. You could use any black, red, and white you choose. In fact, you could easily do this mani for under $3 if you chose all 3 from Wet n Wild: Red Red, Black Creme, and French White Creme.

I love this! I can see myself doing many variations on it :)

Who else is excited for the full video premiere tomorrow?

Have a fantastic Tuesday!

Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat – Antiqued Gold

When I tried out OPI’s Silver Shatter - I remember thinking, “I really wish there was a Gold Shatter!” So… when I saw Sally Hansen’s Antiqued Gold I knew it had to be mine.

Now we’ve compared Silver Shatter and Fractured Foil and decided that they’re pretty  much the same – and everything about Antiqued Gold echos how I felt about Silver Shatter – thumbs up for the sparkle and metallic fun. Crackle/Shatter has won me over yet again (though I still hate Black Shatter).

However, my biggest disappointment with Antiqued Gold is that it’s not really gold enough for me – It’s a little less gold than in the bottle. In fact, I wore it over a dark blue the other day and it really looked like it was silver, which is why I put it over a bright pink (essence colour&go – ultimate pink) – it definitely looks more gold than over the navy blue (essence – underwater 2.0) – but still, for me – it’s not gold enough.

So all in all – I like it, it’s nice-  but if you want something drastically different from Silver Shatter/Fractured Foil – this isn’t it – I’d hold out for China Glaze’s Tarnished Gold (Scrangie has some great swatches of the China Glaze Crackle Metals here).

Happy Wednesday! And if you didn’t already – wish Alli a Happy Birthday!
