Perfect Pair: Essie Go Overboard & OPI Yodel Me On My Cell

I’m totally in love with Essie Go Overboard. It’s just a perfect yes it’s still winter but I’m dying for spring polish. Anyways, I’ve been wearing it alot lately so I was looking for a way to spice it up. Thanks to my handy dandy new nail polish rack all my OPI polishes were on display. I spotted OPI Yodel Me On My Cell and thought it would be the perfect polish to add some sparkle to Go Overboard!

I used 2 coats of Go Overboard and 1 coat of Yodel. I quite like the way it turned out. Yodel didn’t change the color much but it added just the right amount of sparkle.

OPI Metallic 4 Life

I won’t lie….I was pretty excited when I heard Nicki Minaj was collabing with OPI on a collection. While I’m not a huge fan of her music, I love finding out what she’s going to wear next (and I do have a serious obsession with Super Bass). So when I spotted the Nicki Minaj display at Beauty Brands I wanted to try at least one polish.

Metallic 4 Life has multi sized silver glitter suspended in a charcoal gray jelly base. I don’t really get the name on this one. It’s obviously a reference to Nicki Minaj’s song “Moment 4 Life” but this polish isn’t metallic! Anyway, I kind of hate this polish. In order to wear it alone, at least 4 coats are required. And it chips like CRAZY.

I have used this as a top coat once over Essie Smokin’ Hot. That is definitely the way with this polish, but I still didn’t love the way this polish looked. I will continue to try this as a top coat to see if I find a combination I like. But, for now, if I want a black polish with silver glitter I will stick with Orly Goth.

Perfect Pair: Orly Fowl Play & OPI Light My Sapphire

It’s no secret that I’ve been completely in love with Orly Fowl Play since it was released. I love it on its own, but I love it even more layered! I last tried it over OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight, but this time I wanted a slightly darker manicure, so I tried it over OPI Light My Sapphire. The results were fabulous!

Light My Sapphire is an almost black polish with a good bit of sparkle. I used 2 coats of Light My Sapphire and topped it with just one coat of Fowl Play. Light My Sapphire darkened up Fowl Play nicely but the entire manicure still maintained the sparkle I really do like from Light My Sapphire. Overall it was quite a successful mani.

Next I think I’ll try Fowl Play over a dark blue or navy polish. Could be a disaster but that’s what is so fun about experimenting with nail polish!

As usual, there is a macro shot below the jump.

Alli’s Favs: OPI Dating a Royal

Oh em gee y’all! I am so excited to do this post. Dating a Royal is a polish I have wanted for so long. I used it when I was visiting Katie once and totally fell in love with it. Ever since then I’ve looked everywhere for it! I even ended up with a mysterious polish from a nail salon that was in a Dating a Royal bottle but was clearly not Dating a Royal. Anyway, I have the best, best friend ever and this lovely bottle of Dating a Royal arrived in my mailbox for Christmas :)

Dating a Royal was part of OPI’s Summer 2008 Mod About Brights collection. It is a gorgeous royal blue jelly creme. The formula is a bit on the thin side so 3 coats are necessary. But it’s totally worth it!

I’m so glad this lemming has finally been satisfied!

Katie’s Top 10 of 2011

It feels like I just posted my Top 10 of 2010. Top 10 of 2011, just isn’t as catchy, should I have done my top 11?  I felt like every time a new collection came out this year – it didn’t wow me – but going over the last year of posts there are plenty of stand out polishes and it’s been difficult narrowing it down to just 10…

Perfect Pair: OPI Spark de Triomphe & Funky Fingers Edward’s Volvo

My Christmas Eve manicure was OPI An Affair in Red Square, but my dress for Christmas day was red so of course I had to change my nail polish to match. I knew I wanted to use a metallic polish so it wouldn’t clash with my dress. So I put on 2 coats of Funky Fingers Edward’s Volvo but it was just lacking a bling factor. OPI Spark de Triomphe was the perfect glitter to layer on top!

Previously, I had only layered Spark de Triomphe over Orly Rage, which is a rose gold polish. I was surprised how silver this manicure ended up being. I did love how it turned out. And as luck would have it, my brother gave me a ring for Christmas that looked fabulous with this manicure.

OPI An Affair in Red Square

This nail polish is quickly turning into a Christmas tradition! I didn’t realize it until now but I wore this polish on Christmas Eve and Christmas day last year. This year I only wore An Affair in Red Square on Christmas Eve; it went well with my black and white dress.

An Affair in Red Square is originally from OPI’s Fall 2007 Russian Collection. It is a gorgeous bright shimmery red with distinct blue undertones. Application was amazing; I only needed 2 coats.

OPI did add this to their permanent line, so it is easy to find. There is a macro shot below the jump :)

Holiday Sparkle: OPI A Sparkle Yule Love

Worn alone, this is definitely not a sparkle I love! I was pretty luke warm on this polish the first time around. I wore it alone and it just didn’t impress me but I didn want to try layering it over a red polish. After wearing Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamonds & Rubies for a couple of days I grew bored with the color, so I topped it with one coat of OPI A Sparkle Yule Love. What an improvement!

I definitely thing A Sparkle Yule Love’s strong point is it’s ability to be used as a top coat. It would look great over pinks and reds, and it is also perfect to use for an accent nail.

OPI Tease-y Does It

Oh Burlesque. That movie is a total guilty pleasure for me so I of course love that OPI released a Burlesque themed collection. This polish is quite different from the other polishes I have from the Burlesque collection. Show It and Glow It is full on glitter, Ali’s Big Break is a red with a twist and The Show Must Go On! is a super unique metallic. Tease-y Does It is more along the lines of polishes I am usually drawn towards.

Tease-y Does It is a dusty brown based deep purple with microglitter that has a bit of a red and gold duochrome effect to it. Most of the time the shimmer does look red.

As far as application and wear go, this was up to normal OPI standards. I used three coats and had no issues with streaks or bare spots.

OPI Teeny Weeny Pink Bikini

I have a serious soft spot for Beauty Brands OPI exclusives. My favorite red creme  of all time (yes, seriously of all time) is OPI Perfectly Red and I wore OPI Red Hot Glam almost all week last week. So, when I saw Beauty Brands had a new OPI exclusive I had to have it!

Teeny Weeny Pink Bikini did not disappoint! It is a gorgeous red leaning pink packed with shimmer. The shimmer sometimes reflects gold, and other times reflects purple. It does remind me a bit of OPI Met on the Internet and OPI Kinky in Helsinki.

The application of this polish was great. The formula is very pigmented and has a slightly jelly feel to it. I used three coats and this wore fabulously!

If you have a Beauty Brands in your area I highly recommend you check it out. Their OPI exclusives are $4.98 and it’s my favorite place to polish shop.

Make sure to check out the macro shot below the jump :)
